Install the Stinger beta
You're approved, thank you for testing Stinger. Follow the steps for your phone. It takes about five minutes. Stuck? Email support@StingerHQ.com and tell us which step.
iPhone
Test versions of iPhone apps come through TestFlight, Apple's free app for trying apps before they reach the App Store. Stinger needs iOS 15 or newer.
- Install TestFlight. On your iPhone, open the App Store, search for TestFlight (made by Apple) and tap Get.
- Find Apple's invitation. Apple sends it separately, from TestFlight, to the email address you signed up with. It invites you to test Stinger – Beekeeping by Voice. It can arrive a few minutes after our "You're in" email, or later while Apple finishes checking a new test version. Check your junk, spam or Promotions folder too.
- Open Apple's email on your iPhone (not on a computer) and tap View in TestFlight. TestFlight opens. If it asks for a code, the code is in Apple's email. The invitation works with whichever Apple ID your iPhone uses.
- Tap Accept, then Install. Stinger appears on your Home Screen. The small orange dot next to its name means it's a test version.
- Open Stinger and sign in with Apple, Google or your email. If you keep your own bees, choose Register as Owner. If someone in your operation sent you an invitation code, choose Join Existing Crew. Watch the 5-minute video on signing in for the first time.
- Allow what Stinger asks for: notifications (for sign-in approvals and reminders), then the microphone, location and camera. Stinger needs the microphone to listen; location files each note to the right apiary.
After that
- Updates: TestFlight installs new test versions for you. In TestFlight, open Stinger and keep Automatic Updates on. Each test version runs for 90 days, and a newer one replaces it before then.
- Something went wrong? In Stinger, press and hold the message where it happened and tap Report an issue. Stinger sends us what was around that moment, and you can add a note.
- Feedback: take a screenshot in Stinger and tap Share Beta Feedback, or open TestFlight → Stinger → Send Beta Feedback. Email works too: support@StingerHQ.com.
Android
On Android you install Stinger from the normal Google Play Store, once your Google account has joined the test. Stinger needs Android 7 or newer on a 64-bit phone (almost every phone made since 2017).
- Use the right Google account. Only the Google account named in your "You're in" email can join the test. If your phone has more than one Google account, open the Play Store, tap your profile picture at the top right, and switch to that account.
- Join the test. On your phone, open the join link from your "You're in" email and tap Become a tester.
- Install. On the same page, tap the link to download Stinger on Google Play, then tap Install. If Play says the app isn't available yet, wait an hour and try again: it can take a little while for your approval to reach Google.
- Open Stinger and sign in with Google, Apple or your email. If you keep your own bees, choose Register as Owner. If someone in your operation sent you an invitation code, choose Join Existing Crew. Watch the 5-minute video on signing in for the first time.
- Allow what Stinger asks for: notifications, then the microphone, location and camera. Stinger needs the microphone to listen; location files each note to the right apiary.
After that
- Updates: the Play Store updates Stinger like any other app.
- Something went wrong? In Stinger, press and hold the message where it happened and tap Report an issue. Stinger sends us what was around that moment, and you can add a note.
- Feedback: email support@StingerHQ.com — a screenshot helps.
